Echo · Discord Bot
Privacy Policy
Effective July 9, 2026
Echo is a Discord text-to-speech bot operated by KitsuneDen (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data Echo handles and why. By adding or using Echo, you accept this policy. It covers the bot specifically; the Kitsune-Den network privacy policy covers our websites.
What Echo processes
- Message content. In channels Echo is set to read, it converts message text into speech. Text is used only to generate audio and is not stored beyond what's described under “Caching & retention.” Echo ignores messages outside the channels it's configured to read.
- Voice & presence state. Echo sees who is in a voice channel so it can join when people are present and leave when it's empty.
- Voice audio (transcription). When a server turns on
/accessibility transcribe, Echo processes the audio of people speaking in the voice channel to produce live text captions for hearing-impaired members. Audio is transcribed and not stored — only the resulting text is posted to the captions channel.
- Meeting transcripts (Premium). When a server manager runs
/meeting start, Echo joins the voice channel, posts a notice in the channel that it is recording, and processes the audio of people speaking to produce a text transcript. The audio is handled in memory and never stored. The finished transcript is posted to the channel that started the meeting, and Echo keeps no copy of the audio or the transcript afterward. It is the server operator's responsibility to notify participants and obtain any consent their local laws require before recording.
- Identifiers & settings. Echo stores Discord server (guild) and user IDs along with the settings you choose — selected voices, auto-read channel, pronunciation entries, and tier. These persist so your preferences survive restarts.
- Payment status. For Echo Premium we store your server's subscription status and Stripe customer/subscription identifiers. We never see or store card numbers.
Third parties
To provide the service, limited data is shared with:
- Discord — the platform Echo runs on; Discord's own privacy policy applies.
- ElevenLabs — for premium servers, message text is sent to ElevenLabs to synthesize speech. Free servers use a voice engine hosted on our own hardware, so their text is not sent to any third party.
- Stripe — processes Echo Premium payments. Card details go directly to Stripe; we do not handle them.
Live transcription and meeting transcripts run on our own hardware (a self-hosted Whisper model). Speech audio is processed there and not sent to any third party.
We do not sell your data, use message content or voice audio for anything other than generating speech and captions, or share it beyond the providers listed above.
Caching & retention
- Audio for short, repeated phrases (e.g. “A link”) may be cached so identical clips aren't re-generated. Cached audio is keyed to the phrase and voice, not to who said it.
- Settings are kept until you change them or remove Echo from your server, which deletes that server's stored settings.
- Generated speech is transient — Echo does not keep a log of conversations.
Your choices
- Change or clear your settings with Echo's
/voice, /myvoice, /autoread, and /pronounce commands.
- Server managers control accessibility captions and transcription with
/accessibility (off by default).
- Remove Echo from a server to delete that server's stored settings.
- Request data access or deletion at any time — see Contact below.
Children
Echo is intended for users who meet Discord's minimum age requirement (13+, or older where local law requires). It is not directed at children under that age.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes are reflected by the effective date above.
